What is dragnmuse.com?
Years ago, way back in the late 1990′s, early two thousand-ies, I was active online in fanfiction circles for several different fandoms. At that time, I created dragnmuse.com as a static, html website to house this fiction. I had a fair number of visitors and even earned some awards from around the web for the fanfiction. But, that was years ago. For reasons I will explain in a moment, that site died, although I kept the domain name.
The original dragnmuse.com was fun for me – I enjoyed creating something on the web, although it was difficult to keep up since it was a static site. (The current dragnmuse.com runs on WordPress, which is a great blogging platform. and much easier to update.) When this site was a home for fanfiction, I was sharing my creativity with those who came to read. Apparently, I was also sharing it with another writer in the same fandom. She decided instead of thinking of her own ideas, she was going to copy mine. The words themselves were different – although I don’t know why she bothered – but she pretty much lifted my ideas whole cloth. I would have loved to go after her for this, but I was afraid of pushing too hard because since I was writing fanfiction, I didn’t have copyright to the characters anyway.
From there to here
Needless to say, that experience soured me on sharing my fanfiction. For several years I left the site up because some people still came. Then, I couldn’t get the desire together to write any more in the series I had been putting together, so I turned the site into a single page explaining that I was not continuing my site as it was.
I then searched for “dragnmuse” and my story titles in Google and sent a request to remove my fanfiction. At that time I discovered that the thief had also removed her stuff from the web. In some ways I wish I had known about it years before, but I’m not sure it would have changed anything.
So, even though I don’t write fanfiction anymore, I still write. I have several novels in progress and writings and thoughts on other subjects as well, such as tarot cards. Which brings me to where I am now. This site is a place to house my fiction. Each subject is actually it’s own blog, but all can be accessed from here. At this time, I don’t have any novels finished, but I thought it would be interesting to post works in progress with the eventual goal of making the completed book available through the site.
Who is dragnmuse?
dragnmuse is a woman named Cathy. I live on the east coast of the US. I am married to the love of my life, John. We have no human children yet, but we do have two cats, both black. One we rescued from the humane society, and the other we brought in off the street. I am a big lover of animals. I also have two tattoos and several piercings.
The name dragnmuse came about because I believe that my muse is a dragon, but when I went to get a dragonmuse e-mail address, it was taken. So, I shortened the dragonmuse to dragnmuse and there you have it. It also has the advantage of being unique enough that I don’t have a problem when it comes to picking user names.
I’m a liberal and very much so at that; liberal is not a dirty word. I believe that everyone has value and is just as deserving of the good things in life as anyone else. When I first heard the term “civil libertarian” it was like a light bulb went off. So, that’s what you call it! Civil Libertarian describes my political views very well. But, you probably won’t find me writing about politics on dragnmuse.com.
As you read through my writing, or my views on tarot and Phantom of the Opera, you will get to know me better. So, without further ado, go ahead and pick where you would like to go next.
